Marriott Serviced Apartments Bangkok - Executive Suites

Marriott - Suan Plu

The Marriott Sathorn Vista Executive Serviced Apartments are located on Soi Suan Plu in the center of Bangkok and very close the the main business district. At the time of writing, June 2009, these Bangkok serviced apartments are three months old and in excellent condition..

We stayed at these executive service apartments for 4 nights during June of 2009 and rate the apartments based upon our own personal experience of staying in a one bedroom, 75 Square Meter apartment with a living room, dining area and kitchen..

There are various apartment sizes ranging from studios to two bedroom apartments and we took a look at them all as well as all the facilities and amenities.

Work area

We chose to stay here because we lived nearby and wanted to see how things were shaping up and so we booked in for a single night, checked out the next day and then checked back in again two days later. The reason for this was so that we could determine how we'd be treated for short stays compared to longer ones.

Before we checked into the apartments, we received, roughly two days before our stay, an email reminding us of our up-coming stay and laid out what we had booked.

On arrival we were greeted in a very pleasant and welcoming manner by young staff made up of attractive girls and handsome young men. None of the staff looked over 25 but they were efficient and polite. Our bags were carried for us and were placed on a baggage trolley meaning their condition was cared for and they were all kept together. We were also given a complimentary welcome drink and not just a watery and sugary tasteless mix. The drink was a very refreshing and cool homemade lemonade that was very tasty and the perfect refreshing drink. Full marks so far....

We had to wait a short while for the card keys to be programmed for our room and we were then escorted by one of the check-in staff to our room.

Using The Lifts

The lifts will only work if you have a key card and will only take you to the floor for your room or the swimming pool / recreation area. This is great security.
They work by slotting your key card into a card reader just under the lift floor buttons. Take the card out, a light turns green and you can then press your floor number. However, you do not need a card to return to the ground or parking levels.

The Rooms

Marriott Executive Apartments, Bangkok, Thailand

All the rooms are furnished to a very high standard and this includes the studio apartments. The only difference being the size of the apartments but for the purpose of this review we'll stick with our 75 Square Meter, one bedroom apartment with kitchen.

On entering the apartment, which is accessed by placing the key card into the slot on the door and waiting for the light to turn green, it is clear the apartment is new. The good sized kitchen has all new and modern equipment including a fridge, cooker, oven, microwave, kettle and even a dishwasher.

The cupboards contain sufficient cutlery, plates and glasses for 4 people and the kitchen drawers contain completely new and good quality kitchen utensils including bottle openers, ice-cream scoop, scissors and cooking utensils. All were laid out immaculately in quality drawers built into large, clean and white working surfaces. The kitchen itself was very spacious and would be comfortable for long stays.

The dining area has a small dining table pre-laid out for 4. The table is cheap and cheerful as as the dining chairs but they fit in nicely and do not distract from the rest of the apartment.

Living area

The living area is quite spacious with a 3 seater sofa and a single armchair. There is a new, 40" LCD Samsung TV with plenty of English language channels including news, movies, music and discovery programmes. There is also a DVD player but this didn't want to play our copied DVDs which we'd bought from the street. They might have worked had we sought help but we didn't explore that avenue further.

There is a small coffee table and two side tables with dim-able lamps.

In the corner is a small work area where there is also an Internet connection as well as other computer connections built into the wall which we assumed allowed you to connect your laptop to the LCD monitor for a larger display. The work area has a decent office chair and working in that area was easy and comfortable with ample space.

All in all, the kitchen and living areas were quite spacious and meant you could entertain a good number of guests without feeling cramped.

The Bedroom

Double bedroom

The bedroom is also quite spacious and has a number of chairs with cushions. At the foot of the king sized double bed is another LCD TV by Samsung. This time it was a 32" and showed the same channels but it's the bed that makes everything seem luxurious because it was an extremely comfortable bed with crisp and fresh sheets, excellent pillows ( at least 4 ) and a bed topper making sure you get a great night's sleep. It really was one of the best beds we've slept in at any hotel or serviced apartment that we've stayed in. It really is that good.

There is a small safe in the wardrobe which is large and offers plenty of storage for many clothes. There is also a vanity space and a large clothes basket.

The Bathroom

Large, modern and luxurious. The bathroom is another piece of the apartment which gives you that sense of luxury.
The whole bathroom is of marble appearance with a modern toilet and large hand basin. The bathroom is divided into two sections, separated by a glass shower door. In one half is the toilet and hand basin, whilst the second half comprises the shower and large bath. the shower is separate from the bath but both occupy the same half.
head and has plenty of power and good temperature adjustment. We didn't use the bath but it looked spacious and would offer a relaxing soak if needed.

Other Aspects

Our apartment came with a washing machine and drier as well as an iron, ironing board and a hair dryer. There was also a small storage room and plenty of extra storage cupboards.

The Facilities

Swimming pool

There is a large salt water swimming pool and a excellent gym with plenty of brand new exercise equipment.
There's an activity room with a large TV and table football as well as a sauna.

Downstairs near the reception area is a business center.

Internet charges are VERY expensive. Expect to pay around 240 Baht per day going up to 9,000+ per month

Food & Restaurants

Breakfast is a buffet breakfast and is a decent affair with plenty to choose from including crispy bacon, potatoes, eggs, yogurts, salads, cold meats, breads cereals and even some Thai food. It is worth the 250 Baht being charged.

Room service food comes from the MoMo cafe which is attached to the apartments building but seemingly separate as you have to exit the building to enter the "cafe". MoMo's is more of a restaurant offering Western food but it is pricey and to order for your room will set you back an additional 20%..

Places Nearby

Opposite the serviced apartments is a good Thai restaurant and just around the corner is a Shell garage where you can get some snacks and cold drinks, but you can walk a little further down the road and come across a very busy area where there is a market and plenty of street food.

There are no pubs or bars in walking distance but a short taxi ride will get you to Soi Convent where there are a number of restaurants, bars and shops.
Patpong and Patpong market and Silom road is also a short taxi ride away.

The Marriott Executive Apartments offer a very high standard of accommodation with excellent service and facilities. The prices are, at the moment, very reasonable but we guess this will change once it has become more well known.
