For shopping, you can't go wrong with the centrally located hotels such as
The Grand Hyatt Erawan Hotel which is in the center of all the major shopping malls such as
Siam Paragon and
Central World Plaza Shopping Mall as well as
Gaysorn Shopping Mall and
Central Chidlom Department Store. From the Grand Hyatt Erawan Hotel in Bangkok, you have immediate access to the skywalk which connects to the
Bangkok Skytrain Station at Siam or Chidlom and is probably the
best located hotel in Bangkok if shopping is your main purpose. it's also very well located for just
getting around Bangkok in general.
A lot of the higher end hotels in Bangkok are situated along the river. For instance, you have
The Oriental Hotel,
The Peninsula Hotel,
The Marriott Resort & Spa, The Millenium as well as
The Royal Orchid Sheraton. All of these, plus others are along the Chao Praya River (River of Kings) and whilst this is nice and scenic, it's not easy to get about. They are not very close to the skytrain (with the exception of The Shangri La Hotel) or the underground system which means you'll be driving around and getting stuck in traffic.
The hotels by the river have access to the river ferries and these can be very convenient if you want to spent time going to temples and historical landmarks, but they are not good for shopping. A trip to Pantip Plaza from The Peninsula could easily take the best part of a day and so planning your hotel for your purpose is the best thing to do.
and not how we rate the hotel.
