Scuba Diving Pattaya

Scuba Diving - Pattaya

We did our scuba diving courses in Pattaya and found it enjoyable because of the various types of diving available. The only thing we didn't like so much was the visibility uncertainty. Sometimes visibility was very good and other times it was poor.

There are many scuba diving schools and businesses in Pattaya. Last count there were 12 scuba diving centres in Pattaya and Jomtien. All offer a great diving experience in Thailand so if heading to Thailand and Pattaya, why not give scuba a go ?

Each dive centre has something different to offer. Mermaids, for example, is the only CDC (Career Development Center) certified PADI dive centre in Pattaya, whereas Pattaya Dive Centre runs a custom designed dive boat. Whichever you choose, make sure they are certified and with fully qualified dive instructors and dive masters.

Each dive centre has something slightly different but it'sall essentially the same and most likely a PADI dive centre as opposed to NAUI. PADI (Professional Association Of Dive Instructors) is probably the most common of the two diving school options

Scuba diving in Pattaya can make for an excellent choice because there is so much to see and do when you are not scuba diving. It has excellent restaurants, a wide variety of hotels and some of the best night time entertainment in Thailand. If you just want to take it easy, then there are some super beaches.

Pattaya offers, as do most dive sites throughout Thailand, the chance to do a variety of dives including, but not limited to, coral reef dives, drift dives, night dives and wreck dives.

You will have to be suitably qualified to do someof the dives mentioned, but they are all available. Our favourite is the drift diving as that can be quite fast and exciting.

Of course, if you don't fancy scuba diving, you could always snorkel

Most of the dive trips will start from either Jomtien Beach or Beach road where a small boat will take you to the main dive boat and it'll be about an hour's trip to the dive site. Most, if not all, of the dive schools will offer a meal on the boat. This is often cooked on board and will consist of something like fried rice and minced pork or chicken and a fried egg on top - which is a very tasty, common, Thai dish.

Depending on the outing you've joined, there will be a few divers taking certifications and a bunch of qualified divers out for a day's diving.

There will almost certainly be a dive instructor and a dive master, but there will be two people qualified to take a group of divers out.

Not all people aboard the boat will be there to scuba dive. There might be one or two prefering to do some snorkelling.
