Siam Center

Opened in 1973, Siam Center was the first shopping complex in Bangkok to meet international shopping standards and consists of 40,000 square feet of shopping space spread over 4 floors. It has recently been given a more modern face lift bringing it up to date with the other malls in the area and even offers free Internet access on the ground floor

The aim is to provide the latest fashions from around the world and from local Thai designers and is aimed at teenagers and young adults.

Where Is It?

The shopping mall is situated in the most popular shopping area in Bangkok: Siam. It is between Siam Discovery Center and Siam Paragon and is no more than a short walk from MBK.

Siam is generally a teenager's hang out. Siam Center, right next door, is the shopping mall for teenagers. There are hundreds of teenagers milling around and all the shops are geared towards that age group, but Siam Discovery is aimed squarely at young adults and up. There is very little to attract people looking for a bargain.

Places To Eat

There are a number of restaurants and cafes throughout Siam Center but one place teenagers like to go is the Food For Fun food court on the top floor. Food For Fun is a trendily decorated area consisting of stalls offering various types of food. It's possible to get various food such as Japanese, Korean, Thai, Chinese and Italian as well as some others. The food here is a lot cheaper than you'd get at some of the surrounding restaurants and so if on a tight budget, Food For Fun makes for a great option.

What Can I Buy There ?

It's all about fashion and fashion accessories. Whether it's clothing, jewelry and watches or bags and shoes, you can get most fashion item at this centrally located Bangkok mall.

Who Shops There ?

Anyone can shop at Siam Center but it's aimed at teenagers and young adults.

At the weekends and after school, the mall is crowded with Thai teenagers all looking to see and be seen. The upper floors attract more of them as there is a number of places to eat and drink and there's also a live radio station broadcasting on the top floor so this is where most teens hang out.

On the ground / first floor, there are often live bands playing or promotional shows which attract a lot of people and so it can get a little congested at times.

There are a good number of shops that can be found elsewhere such as Dapper, Nike, Castro and others, but there are also a good number of non-brand named shops that offer items probably not found in other shops or shopping malls.

Obviously, if you are young at heart and are looking for the latest trends and fashions, this would certainly be one of the first places you should try but it's also very well located for other shops and malls.

Directly opposite is Siam Square which is probably THE place to hang out if you are a teenager or Uni student. Almost all the shops at Siam Square are unique and well priced and if you can't find what you are after at Siam Center, just head across the road and you could very well find it there.
